Ontopsychology was born and formalized in 1971 with the publication of “The Ontopsychology of Man”, a book by Professor Antonio Meneghetti. Professor Meneghetti’s thinking and, most of all, his discoveries – which make it possible to have a fully rational view of elementary psychology – were made official with the establishment of the Ontopsychology Department at the School of Psychology of Saint Petersburg’s University. His theories have been developed essentially from the experience of the crisis of sciences (Husserl) and, above all, from the intuition that existence has a foundation. In ten years of clinical activity (1971-1981), Meneghetti was able to confirm that his theories are in keeping with the laws of nature (disappearance of the symptom in all the cases researched in clinical psychotherapy, from the full response of clinical psychotherapy, from neoplasias to the various psychosomatics, from neuroses to asocial dystonias) and isolated the basic elements of the Ontic In Itself (humankind’s ontic and formal criterion) on a naturist and existential basis (with a biological parallel), establishing the principle that knowledge is real only if it is reversible within the reality of life. Hence, it is clear that Ontopsychology is generally epistemic to any scientific or intellectual process. The ontological nexus guarantees reciprocal causality. “A theory is true only if it has that ontological nexus that produces evidence of causality for that object”. However, according to Ontopsychology, the psychotherapeutic solution applied to the symptom is only instrumental. In fact, its purpose is to train leaders, whose skills generate the active intuition of solutions for the community. Starting in the early 1990s, Professor Meneghetti’s thinking shifted toward a more sociologically-oriented approach, stressing the important relationship between man and society and emphasizing – in accordance with his original intention – the psychology of self-fulfillment and creativity, with the leader who achieves his or her mission by serving human and social needs. This laid the groundwork for the application of Ontopsychology to art, politics and business, among others, allowing the leader to free himself or herself from stereotyped cultural models and to develop an ontic consciousness which is the foundation of full, historical self-realization. In thirty years of teaching and, most of all, demonstration activities carried out in Europe, Russia, Africa, China ad in the Americas, there have been over sixteen international and world congresses. Professor Meneghetti’s publications are available in Russian, English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, German and Chinese. Memoranda of understandings have been signed with many universities worldwide and post-graduate courses have been established at accredited state universities, with the objective to train operators specializing in Ontopsychology throughout the world (Faculdade Antonio Meneghetti in Brazil – St. Petersburg University). Today Ontopsychology is considered as a medium to achieve interdisciplinary knowledge, as it is intended for the global operator, covering all areas, from epistemic research to “internet” technique.
