At Lizori, Easter is the return of light.

In 1976, the village was abandoned and severely deteriorated. Fifty years later, Lizori lives on thanks to those who love it, preserve it and continue to care for it. This sustained commitment has made Lizori a significant example of regeneration and a place of research, education and culture, known internationally.

To mark this anniversary, the Antonio Meneghetti Scientific and Humanistic Research Foundation has promoted the publication of Viaggio a Lizori. Paesaggio, percezione, disegni (Journey to Lizori. Landscape, Perception, Drawings).

The box set contains two leporello, or accordion-fold, volumes written by Fabio Bianconi and Marco Filippucci, with illustrations by Claudio Patanè.

The distinctive accordion-fold structure allows the work to unfold like a map. The two volumes echo and complement one another, creating a journey in which landscape, perception and drawing become tools for discovering Lizori and interpreting the relationship between the village, its territory and the people who pass through it. The second volume contains a two-and-a-half-metre panoramic watercolour depicting the valley and the surrounding towns and villages.

The box set tells the story of fifty years of care, restoration and research, while leaving the narrative open. Blank pages provided for notes invite each reader to continue the journey through their own gaze, thoughts and experience of the place.

The work thus conveys one of the most significant aspects of Lizori’s history: a bond born through encounters and affection for the village has, over time, become an opportunity for study, education and scientific exchange. Drawing does more than document what exists; it helps us see and understand the quality of a landscape and the way in which it has been regenerated.

Upcoming events

Two events presenting the box set are planned for the coming months. The first will take place in Lizori on 26 June; the second on 8 July at Palazzo Due Mondi in Spoleto, during the Festival dei Due Mondi.

The two events will offer different perspectives on the relationship between Lizori, the landscape and the people, and will provide an opportunity to share with the public a journey that began fifty years ago and continues to unfold.
